About Syeda
All children deserve to live in a world where they are seen, heard and treasured. This world is made up of individuals who strive for unity and acceptance. A child’s world should be filled with empathy, compassion, and peace. Syeda Mleeha Shah is determined to provide spaces and opportunities where this is a reality.
In 2001, Syeda immigrated from Pakistan to the United States with a dream.
She knew that helping young children thrive was a part of her life’s work. The developmental stage from birth to age five is fundamental to a child’s overall success. This is where an educational, emotional and social foundation is set. With this knowledge, Syeda began the work needed to build stronger communities by opening an early childhood education and development center in 2002. This business venture set the tone for the work that she currently pursues today. Check out White Oak Early Childcare Center
Early childhood development centers aren’t just places for parents to drop off their children while they work. They are so much more than that. When Syeda started her early childhood development center, she immediately became a community partner. Partnering with families to provide children with opportunities to learn academically, emotionally, and socially was imperative. For the past 20 years, Syeda prides herself with ensuring that this goal is met continuously. Children not only are growing their brains, but they are also widening their lenses about the world around them.
Syeda realized that the world was changing, and it was important for children to understand the power of peace in spaces where disunity, disagreement and discord were being reinforced instead. The stronger the communities, the more peace can abound. For peace to be realized, children must learn how to accept differences. Various people and their cultures can function well together if that acceptance is present. This is the first condition of peace and what Syeda continuously teaches through her curriculum.
Peace education provides strategies such as problem solving, self-reliance, self- regulation and gratitude in ways for their young minds to grasp. Conflict is inevitable. Having an early childhood curriculum that includes peace education shows children how to master conflict in a way that is beneficial for their own communities.
To bring further awareness about the benefits of peaceful living, Syeda published a picture book called “Peace in My World” in June of 2010. “Peace in My World” was written to help young children understand the importance of world peace at an early age. With its simple language and colorful pictures illustrated by Jason Hutton, children are taken on an adventure proving that they can and should be “in peace from head to toe.” This isn’t a reality for all children and is why Syeda’s book is dedicated to displaced children living in refugee camps throughout the world.
The call for peace drives Syeda.
It is just as important as air. Everything that she writes, teaches or creates is wrapped in the mission of peace. In 2021, Syeda created a line of ethnic art for young children and adults called ‘Peace Art Collection’. Syeda’s art is now displayed and sold at her global market JAG Home & Decor . Syeda has been able to help young children build a connection with nature in hopes that this will foster emotional and internal peace.
Artist, Photographer, and Early Childhood Professional are labels that are tied to Syeda Mleeha Shah but the most important one is Peacemaker.
