In Fall 2026, Syeda Mleeha Shah will release Planting Seeds of Peace: Building Foundations for Empathy, Belonging, and Global Awareness in Early Childhood, a research-informed, practice-focused guide for early childhood educators, caregivers, and families. Developed in response to the social and emotional challenges observed during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, this book addresses a central question: How do we intentionally support young children in developing empathy, regulation, and connection in an increasingly complex world? Drawing on decades of early childhood experience, Shah reframes peace education as a set of teachable, developmentally appropriate skills embedded in daily routines and relationships. Each chapter offers practical strategies, educator scenarios, and reflection prompts focused on emotional literacy, conflict resolution, cultural awareness, mindfulness, grief-informed care, and family partnership. Designed for use in diverse early learning settings, the book supports educators in translating empathy-focused learning into intentional practice. Planting Seeds of Peace will be published by Redleaf Press, part of Think Small, whose mission to advance equity and quality in early childhood education closely aligns with the values and purpose of this work. More details, including pre-order information and launch events, will be shared as the Fall 2026 release approaches.
Parenting Guide & Blog
Raising young children is both meaningful and demanding. In the early years, children are learning how to understand their emotions, communicate their needs, and build relationships. They rely on the adults in their lives to guide that growth with patience and intention. This parenting guide supports families with practical, developmentally appropriate strategies for nurturing emotional regulation, empathy, and respectful communication in everyday moments. Rather than focusing on perfection, it emphasizes consistency, connection, and reflection. The goal is to help parents create calm, supportive environments where children feel safe, understood, and capable of growing into confident, caring individuals.
